The Scorpion Stinger SST51913-FP is a lithium motorcycle battery that offers an increased performance and lightweight design over traditional lead-acid-based OEM batteries. The SST51913-FP was designed to replace the sealed lead acid YT51913-22 or YTX22L batteries and the OEM 51913 or 51914 flooded batteries. This Scorpion Stinger SST51913-FP will easily crank your motorcycle while weighing up to 60% less than the OEM lead acid.

As the graph below suggests, Scorpion Stinger batteries hold a higher resting voltage than other batteries. They start higher and finish higher, meaning that during times of heavy load they have the ability to crank the starter faster and longer than the competition. For starting batteries, most of the work happens in the first 5-10 seconds. More voltage throughout that range ensures quicker starts and less strain on the starting system.
All the test batteries were fully charged and maintained for 48 hours on shop grade smart charger. Starting voltages achieved by fully charging batteries, then removing battery from any outside input for 24 hours. Each battery was tested under equal conditions at 72° F, using a true 100 AH load to simulate starting.
BatteryStuff understands the importance of getting a replacement battery right away. We usually ships all batteries the same day as ordered if received before 1:30pm (Pacific).
LiFePo4 Batteries are sensitive to heat. If the battery will be sitting directly on top of the engine and/or surrounded by the oil pan, we do NOT recommend using any Lithium Battery.
**Over-Charge protection will not protect from a faulty/old Voltage Regulator spiking Hi-Voltages to Battery. If you have a Pre-1990s Motorcycle replace your voltage regulator; it is over 30 year old and most likely broken by now.

Lithium battery salvation
Battery solved the problem -after worrying about adequacy of charging, a short in the system, etc. The very light weight of the battery was a big plus also (for an old guy who is no longer so powerful as back in the day).

At first I was dubious, but WOW
This battery seems to have a built in BMS (battery management system) so the LiFePO4 cells should stay balanced. Although I have wanted to cut this battery open to see what's inside I have refrained, it appears to be an empty plastic box. The size was slightly (and I mean only slightly) smaller than the OEM Gel Cell, it required some shimming to keep it from rattling around, which it will do to the fact it weighs almost nothing!
Light weight. Almost too lightweight. Seems like an empty box, but brother it's not! It fit my R1200RT almost perfectly, it's got a nice charge indicator on the top, and MAN can it put out the amps for starting. In all the years I have had this bike it's never cranked and started so fast.
So far no problems of any kind.
Cons:
First capacity. I used a West Mountain computerized battery analyzer to test it's "reserve capacity" Using standard test methodology for lead acid batteries it's only got a 12 minute rating. After recharging the amp hour capacity came out to 7.3 AH. If you like to listen to your radio after the bike is off the battery will drain very quickly - but now you know this. Off with your electric clothes, off with the radio right away.

Don't waste your time and money on these!
I have purchased two of these batteries and BOTH of them failed beyond repair in less than two years. I will never buy these every again.

Customer was only able to provide proof of purchase for one battery from BatteryStuff.com, however customer sent two batteries in for warranty testing. Both batteries received for warranty were at an excessive discharged state showing lack of maintenance charging, which can affect the life of a lithium battery. Batteries received at an excessive discharge state are ineligible for warranty, as warranty only covers manufacturer defect. As an exception we issued a pro-rated warranty to store credit for the one we had proof of purchase for as it was purchased over two years ago. Customer was advised the importance of maintenance charging as lithium's are only 1/3 the capacity of the original battery. Customer ended up using store credit to repurchase the same lithium.

I had hoped that the 2005 K1200LT would reverse smoothly, like it did as a motorcycle using a less powerful motorcycle battery, but as a trike, using your Scorpion Stinger lithium battery in the conversion, it still reversed in fits and starts -- six short spurts to back down my driveway, although more powerful. ???
