Overview
The Victron Energy 500 Amp SmartShunt is an all-in-one battery monitor that uses your smart phone as display. The SmartShunt utilizes Bluetooth technology to connect to your phone where you can conveniently read the battey parameters via the VictronConnect app.
The 500 Amp Victron SmartShunt measures voltage, current, Amp Hours, State of Charge, Time to go, and Temperature (when temperature sensor is used). While connecting to the unit via Bluetooth is the recommended method it can also be connected and read by a GX Device via a VE.Direct cable.
In today’s market Bluetooth monitoring devices are being integrated in many higher end batteries. When a customer needs multiple batteries that added cost per battery can add up quickly. The VictronSmart shunt is a great alternative that can save you money as it is one device that is meant to monitor a single battery or battery pack.
The shunt and the electric cables do negatively influence the range of the Bluetooth signal. The resulting range of 10-15 meter is however satisfactory in most cases. The proximity of other electrically conducting elements, such as the metal chassis of a vehicle or seawater around the hull if a boat, may reduce the range of the Bluetooth signal to an unacceptable level. The solution in such a case is to add a VE.Direct Bluetooth Dongle (ASS030536011) to the system, and to switch off Bluetooth in the SmartShunt.Features
